How To: Gradient Glitter Nails

Gradients are a big trend in nail art so we've got a fun and simple way to create a gradient mani with polish and glitter! Intrigued? We thought so ;)

So what will you need?

Create A Glitter Polish

So first thing's first, we're going to start by creating the glitter you want to use.

  1. Use any color and shape combo your heart desires (although we suggest starting out with a simple powder if this is your first time) in an empty jar.
  2. Place a few drops, or a small amount of suspension base nail polish on a paper plate. Don't be afraid to use a little portion of the nail polish to test. Shake in a bit of the glitter combo you've already created into the few drops of polish
  3. Use your orange stick to mix the glitter and polish together. After mixing, do a test swatch on paper or a nail. Feel free to experiment until you get your perfect look!
  4. Place a funnel into the top of the Franken Formula or polish bottle. Slowly add glitter into the bottle.
  5. Add a couple of Franken Ballz, and shake! Test your mixed glitter polish on a nail. Add more glitter as needed.

Nail Time!

Okay, now that we have our glitter polish created we can get to our nails!

  1. Start by applying a base coat to your nails to prevent and color from bleeding through and staining your nails. (Stained nails ain't pretty!)
  2. Once base coat is dry, apply 1-2 coats of the colored polish you've chosen for your look.
  3. Once your color has dried, apply a light coat of your glitter polish on the tips of your nails in a "C" shape. Make sure this coat is only lightly glittered.
  4. Now lay on another coat of the glitter polish in a "C" shape closer to the tip of the nail.
  5. Repeat this getting closer and closer to the tip of the nail until you get the gradient effect that you want.

Now that wasn't too hard, was it?! Now you've got the perfect gradient glitter nails! Here are some examples of what you can do with this look:

What Do You Know About Flitter Glitter?

There’s more to think about when picking your glitter than what color you want. Now don’t get me wrong, you have to love the color of your glitter to give yourself
the perfect manicure, but before thinking color think style and type. Hexagon?
Flitter? Fine Powder? Square? There are so many to choose from, it’s overwhelming!

Let’s start with flitter today and why you can never go wrong with flitter nails.
It captures the light in a way other glitters can’t.
There’s just no comparison if you’re looking to blind a few eyes with your nails!

The shape and length of the flitter makes a perfect surface to grab and reflect light.
Something you just can’t get from your fine powder glitter. With flitter on your nails you get a kind of texture that's very different from any other
glitter. While a powder will give you a grainy look, with flitter you’ll get more of a fuzy look. Kind of like putting a sweater on your nails.

It’s the long strands that
make this glitter look and feel completely unique from any other kind.

You can use it in just as many ways as the other glitter types.
Covered in flitter. Half dipped in flitter. Whatever your style, you can pull it off with
some flitter. Get creative, try new looks, and have fun with your glitter! Make stripes
with your flitter glitter, zig zags, or even go half covered and half uncovered.

The
possibilities are limitless. And of course you can do this with any glitter type, but
flitter will give you a look and texture the others can’t!

Check out our beautiful flitter glitters here!

Man Crush Monday: JGL

It's been a little too long since we've posted so we're just going to start out with a good ol' fashioned Man Crush Monday post!

This one is a no brainer.... the very eligible, Mr. Joseph Gordon Levitt! Come on, don't tell us you've never crushed on this actor. Not only is he easy on the eyes, he's creator of the creative outlet gone TV show HitRecord and has made the big jump from acting to directing! Creativity, brains, and looks. No wonder so many gals are crushing on him. :)

Jennifer Lawrence, The Real Actress

Photo found on Pinterest

It’s that time again… it’s Woman Crush Wednesday! As always we’ve been giving this week’s crush a lot of thought. But of course you’ll wonder why we had to put any thought into this one! She’s an absolute no brainer! You’ve probably got a pretty good idea of which America’s sweethearts we’re talking about.

Jennifer Lawrence! Of course. How could it take us this long to finally feature everyone’s favorite? And she is definitely everyone’s favorite! Has anyone ever said they didn’t like Jennifer? Nope. It’s impossible not to love her like a BFF! She’s so well liked and relatable because she is 100% authentic. We’re so used to celebrities being these objects of wonder and perfection. They become people who aren’t quite real.

We are loving Jennifer Lawrence because she just doesn’t care about pretending. She’s not afraid to talk about pizza or how star struck she is when she meets stars like Meryl Streep. She shows confidence in herself enough that she doesn’t have to change herself to meet Hollywood’s standards.
“In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress. I eat like a caveman. I’ll be the only actress who doesn’t have anorexia rumours! I’m never going to starve myself for a part. I’m invincible. I don’t want little girls to be like ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner!’” - Jennifer Lawrence on her weight
We love her because we know she’s just like us! It’s not a common thing to see a celebrity and think of them as a normal person. Thank you Jennifer! Who couldn’t love America’s sweetheart?

Emma Watson, The "It" Girl

Photo found on Tumblr

We’ve been very selective when choosing who to promote as our Woman Crush Wednesday. We want only the strongest, most confident, and most relatable women to make the cut. Who would you want to go hang out with and call your BFF? We thought about this and came up with a great candidate, Emma Watson!

Photo found on Tumblr
Emma Watson is one of those actresses who is so real and genuine, it’s easy to feel like you already know her! She’s the kind of woman in the spotlight that everyone loves to love. We’ve watched her grow up from the beginning of the Harry Potter series as a little kid to a full grown adult. And while it’s easy to go from cute kid star to a young adult falling into a world with no values, Emma has completely avoided that phase.

In a world where showing more skin is not only acceptable, but encouraged, Emma isn’t afraid to remind us that sometimes modesty pays off.

“I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do an interview with photographs people desperately want to change me - dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that. Personally, I don’t actually think it’s even that sexy. What’s sexy about saying, ‘I’m here with  my boobs out and a short skirt, have a look at everything I’ve got?’ My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder.”

We are loving Emma Watson this week because of her great talent and exceptional courage to be who she is in a world where you’re always being watched. From her chic fashion sense to her charming sense of humor, she’s definitely an “It” girl!

What do you think of Emma Watson? Who is your Woman Crush this Wednesday?
