Glitter Brows Are Here For The Holidays

@maittaly instagram

The winter holiday season brings us so much to love. Sweaters, snows, knitted beanies, parties, cookies, and plenty of opportunities to use up your glitter is what you can expect.

One way you can use that glitter is with this suddenly popular glitter trend: glitter brows. This is the ladies' answer to the glitter beard and glitter pits. Please don't put glitter on your pits. PLEASE! Glitter brows will make you stand out at your holiday parties without going over the top.

So if you're one of the many who believes glitter can make anything better, we've got some tips for you to create your own glitter brow look!

Supplies You'll Need:

  • Eye shadow brushes
  • Cosmetic grade glitter
  • Glitter base/eyebrow gel
  • You can also use an eyebrow pencil for more color, or you can keep some of the natural brow without any pencil.

Glitter Your Brows:
  1. Apply the glitter base to your eyebrows. If you're using a pencil it will make a good base for your glitter.
  2. Dip your brush into your glitter. You're going to want A LOT of glitter on your brush. (We recommend choosing metallics and reds for your glitter color. It's pretty much perfect for any holiday party.)
  3. Apply as much or as little glitter as you want to your brows.
That's all it takes! Now you can decide what color eye shadow you want to match!

Glitter Roots: The "Can't Make it to The Salon" Solution

There's a new and unexpected trend this fall. Stemming from the lazy girl's need to cover up those fast growing roots, this look has now turned into a fashion statement. This isn't the trend for you if you're looking for just a touch of glitter, in fact just the opposite. You better love glitter. And LOTS of glitter.

The best part of the glitter roots look? It's easy. Have some glitter? How about some hair gel? Then you've got everything you need to make your own glitter roots! Just in case you're still hesitant, let us take it step by step for you.
  1. Brush out your hair. When adding glitter to your roots, the last thing you want to deal with are tangles. Trust us.
  2. Part your hair. Parting down the middle seems to be the most popular.
  3. Mix glitter in your hair gel.
  4. Apply to roots with a brush.
  5. You're all set and ready to go!

With the holiday season here you will have plenty of opportunities at holiday parties, family get togethers, and movie premiers to rock your glitter roots.  We can totally see this trend making a debut at the new Hunger Games and Star Wars premiers, can't you? With the increasing popularity, you probably won't be the only one with some sparkle in your hair ;).

So is this the kind of trend you'll be trying this season? What occasion do you think it's perfect for? Share your creations with us and tell us what you think below in the comment section! In the meantime, check out the below glitter roots for some inspiration :).

5 Ways To Add Some Glitter To Your Cheetah Print

Nothing says fierce quite like a cheetah print does. It's a wild yet classy trend that has been loved for decades and will continue to be for decades more. When everyone seems to be sporting this timeless look, how do you make it different to set yourself apart? Glitter. Make your standout animal print stand out even more with either a touch or a mountain of sparkle!

This chic and fashion forward mani has a beautifully balanced combo of polka dots and cheetah print. With everything happening in this look, the cheetah print has more presence because of the glitter it sits on. Without the glitter it would just blend in with every other nail. That would be boring, wouldn't it?

So how do you create a stunning cheetah print glitter nail like this? It's pretty simple actually:

  • Apply bonding formula to your nail.
  • Sprinkle a liberal amount of glitter on your nail over a piece of card stock.
  • Apply Sealing formula and allow to dry for 3-5 minutes.
  • Apply second coat of Sealing Formula and allow to dry.
  • Use the nail polish of your choice to paint your cheetah print on your glitter nail.

Now how about a cheetah print glitter eye? This is definitely the type of eye makeup look that will turn some heads! For this DIY make sure you use COSMETIC glitter! We can't stress that enough! Nail glitter and especially craft glitter will irritate you skin. Trust us, you're going to want cosmetic glitter.
  • Apply your eyeliner.
  • Apply color of eye shadow you like. We recommend using a creme based eye shadow so you can apply your glitter to the shadow. Applying your glitter directly to your skin will cause irritation.
  • Apply glitter.
  • Use your eyeliner to draw your cheetah print.

Cheetah print glitter shoes! Is there anything more desirable on this planet?! We don't think so! This one is pretty easy to make, all you need is a pair of cheetah print shoes, mod podge, tape, and glitter! Use any color of glitter you like. The gold glitter used with these shoes is a great match!
  • Tape off section of shoes you want to glitter.
  • Brush on even coat of mod podge.
  • Apply glitter.
  • Allow to dry.
  • Take off tape.

So basically you can add glitter to just about anything with a little bit of mod podge :). Remember the key is to use an even coat for the right texture and look. Who doesn't want a glitter cheetah print glass to go with dinner?

More proof that mod podge and glitter reign supreme:

Now that you have lots of great ideas, go start some glitter/cheetah print creations! And share them with us of course!

Polish Topped Glitter Nails

You can find plenty of polished nails with glitter designs on top, but you can also find glitter nails with polish designs. Both are eye popping looks, just a little different when it comes to execution. Starting with a base of glitter and then adding on a polish design is the simpler of the methods. Grab your glitter and some nail tape and let's get started!

What You'll Need:

  • Glitter
  • Sealing formula
  • Bonding formula
  • Frankening supplies (if making your own glitter polish)
  • Orange sticks
  • Nail tape
  • Nail polish
  • Tooth picks

Aren't you just dying over this dinosaur glitter mani? We've never fallen so hard over a silver glitter nail art design before! Here are some pretty simple tips on how to recreate this one:
  • Start with glitter. You can either make your glitter nails by applying directly to the nail bed, or you can create a glitter polish and apply it as a polish. Creating your own polish by frankening will take a little more effort than by applying glitter directly to your nails, but it's tons of fun to make your own glitter polish!
  • Make sure you use a good amount of the sealing formula to create a smooth surface to paint onto.
  • Use nail tape to create your triangular designs and paint them with the color of your choice.
  • Use tooth picks with polish to draw on your dinosaurs.
  • Apply a top coat.

Sailor Moon glitter nails aren't just for the pros. Once you have the glitter mani mastered, you're on your way to fun designs like this one.

  • Follow the instructions as shown above to create your glitter mani. You can use glitter powder as shown in the picture, or you can use any different type of glitter you could think of.
  • Use a tooth pick to create the stars as shown.
  • Nail tape can be used to create the moon and woman shapes.
  • Apply a top coat once your designs are complete.
Now check out the looks below for even more inspiration. Make sure you share your personal creations with us, we love sharing work!

Adding Charms to Your #Mani

This blog post goes out to all you attention getters! Sometimes a creative mani just isn't enough to stand out when it's one dimensional. Nail artists are using charms, studs, and beads to their nail art creations more and more often. Now you may wonder why anyone would want to add something to your nails that could just fall off the same day you apply it?! Well we've got some tips that will you can use to make sure your favorite nail art add-ons stay put!

What Will I Need?

You may not need everything on this list depending on the method of application you choose, but if the method you choose ends up not being what you expect it's best to be prepared!
  • Nail polish
  • Glitter
  • Top coat
  • Bonding formula (if applying glitter directly to the nail)
  • Sealing formula (if applying glitter directly to the nail)
  • If creating your own glitter polish, frankening supplies
  • Studs, charms, beads
  • Nail glue
  • Gel polish

How Do I Apply My Add-Ons?

There are various methods of adding on your charms, studs, and beads. They range from easy to time consuming, long lasting to a little more temporary.

The Top Coat Method

If you're wanting a quick and easy application we recommend applying directly to your top coat.
  • Paint your nails with the polish of your choice.
  • Add on a clear top coat that isn't quick drying.
  • Using tweezers or an orange stick, place your add-ons to your wet nails.
  • Once the coat has dried and your add-ons are secure, add one more clear top coat to seal the deal!
  • Easy, huh?

The Nail Glue Method

Now this method takes a little more hand stability and a little more time. You'll want to use this method if you are working with large add-ons or want to make sure your charm mani lasts longer.
  • Paint your nails with the polish of your choice. (Or glitter your nails :))
  • Add a dot of glue to the area you want your add-on to be.
  • Place your add-on on the glue dot.
  • Use an orange stick to hold your add-on in place. (You will not be happy if your add-on slips and slides!)
  • Allow glue to dry.
  • Apply a clear top coat.

The Gel Polish Method

Gel polish also works well with larger add-ons without the stress of dealing with glue! You may want to try both out to find your personal preference.
  • Apply two coats of gel polish to your nails and cure.
  • Apply your add-on.
  • Add a top coat of gel polish. (Make sure you apply it over your add-ons)

Which add-on method is best? Only you can decide that for yourself! Try these out and share your best works of art with us! We always love to share great nail art :)

Another way to add some spice to your beach nails is to just add some glitter powder:

Adding a Glitter Accent to Your Mani

One glitter mani trend that is just as gorgeous to look at as it is easy to create is the accent nail design. You can create any consistent nail art pattern and alter one nail by covering it with glitter. One nail can completely change your look!

What You'll Need:

  • Base polish
  • Nail polish
  • Glitter
  • Bonding Formula
  • Sealing Formula

This one is pretty simple:
  • Start by polishing your nails an even coat with the color of your choice (blue is used in this example).
  • Paint a second coat, and make sure to get the edges of your nails to prevent chipping!
  • Create the chevron look by placing nail tape and painting with your second color.
  • Create your glitter accent nail! We love the use of silver hexagon glitter on this. You can do this one of two ways:
Here's a fun one:
  • Once again, polish those nails!
  • Give your nails a second coat and paint the edges.
  • To create the colorful polka dots, use a dotting tool. Don't have a dotting tool? You can actually use a Q-tip, but your polka dots with be a larger size.
  • Create your glitter accent nail by following the same guidelines as shown above.

The perfect look for an ombre lover:
  • Create an ombre effect by putting the two colors you want on a makeup sponge and blending with a brush.
  • Take the blend on the sponge and apply it to your nails
  • To create the glitter accent design, tape off the sections you don't want the glitter on with nail tape.
  • Apply glitter. We recommend applying glitter directly to the nail with this one!
Still want more? Here a few more glitter accent nail looks we're in love with!

Make Your Own Chevron Glitter Mani

Not sure what to do with your nails this weekend? Well look no further! We're going to show you an easy way to create your very own glitter chevron mani. The best thing about the chevron designs is that it doesn't look like they will be going out of style anytime soon. :)

What Will You Need?

  • Base polish
  • Bonding Formula
  • Sealing Formula
  • Nail polish
  • Glitter/Glitter polish
  • Orange Stick
  • Nail tape/scotch tape

Start With Glitter

You can apply the glitter to your nails one of two ways: a glitter polish, or directly to the nails. Don't have a glitter polish and want to make your own? Our Gradient Glitter Nails blog post has all the details on making your own glitter polish.

So if you choose the glitter polish the application is pretty self explanatory. Apply a base coat, allow to dry, apply glitter polish. Not too difficult, right?

However, if you want to apply glitter directly to your nails it's gonna take a few more steps:

  1. Apply base coat to prevent discoloration and let dry.
  2. Place hand on heavy piece of card stock to catch excess glitter.
  3. Apply Bonding Formula.
  4. While Bonding Formula is still wet, sprinkle a generous amount of glitter onto your nails. With your finger, push the glitter gently into the bonding coat. Repeat the process until all 5 fingers are complete. Shake excess glitter onto the paper. Using an orange stick, carefully remove excess glitter from around the nail.
  5. If the glitter doesn't stick to a small area, or you desire your glitter color to be darker, repeat step 2 and 3 to the entire nail
  6. Complete the steps above on other hand and let nails dry for 3-5 mintues.
  7. Apply a second layer of Bonding Formula over the top of the glitter. Again, include the front edge.
  8. To save excess glitter, fold the paper in half and let the extra glitter slide into its jar.
  9. Apply Sealing Formula and let dry for 3-5 minutes.
  10. Apply second layer and let dry for 3-5 minutes.
  11. When nails are dry, brush or wash off any excess glitter.

Get Your Chevrons On!

Now that your nails are "glittered" it's time for the fun part! This is when you'll want to pick out whatever color combos your heart could possibly desire!

  1. Apply nail tape (or scotch tape) in a "V" shape as many or as few times as you want.
  2. Paint your nails!
  3. Remove nail tape from nails
  4. Love your nails!
Pretty simple, huh? Now you and your nails are ready for the weekend!

Glitter Eye DIY's

As glitter nails and makeup continues to grow in trend, we are seeing a lot of glitter eye looks! We're sure you've seen them too. Have you been wondering how you can pull off the glitter eye? Or do you just assume it would be too hard to create the look? We've got some pointers that just might help you out!

Cosmetic Glitter- First things first, you have to make sure you're using cosmetic glitter! Why? Well, why would you want to use glitter that was designed to be put in nail polish or on crafts for your skin? Using the wrong kind of glitter can give you a rash. Yuck!

Now How Do You Apply It?

DO NOT apply your glitter directly to your skin! Applying directly to your skin increases irritation to the skin and the glitter just won't stay put the way you want.

A very simple and easy way to apply glitter to your eyelids is by mixing your glitter in a creme-based eyeshadow. You can use any color eyeshadow your heart desires! A flesh toned eyeshadow will make your glitter stand out more, but you can always match your glitter color with your eyeshadow for a more subtle sparkle. This is a great way to create your own unique eyeshadow!

Choose Your Eye Glitter Style!

Now's the fun part, deciding what look you want for your eye makeup!

You can completely cover your eyelid for a straight forward in your face look. This is definitely for those who are bold at heart.

Not so in love with the completely covered look? Maybe lining your eyelid the way you would with eyeliner is more your style. Much more subtle, but just as eye popping!

Removal

Unfortunately, wiping with water on a damp rag will not remove your glitter makeup. If you're planning on getting into the glitter eye look, it would be a good idea to invest in an oil based makeup remover.

We hope your glitter eye endeavors are a success! Don't be afraid to experiment to find the perfect look you can love! :)

How To: Gradient Glitter Nails

So what will you need?

Create A Glitter Polish

So first thing's first, we're going to start by creating the glitter you want to use.

  1. Use any color and shape combo your heart desires (although we suggest starting out with a simple powder if this is your first time) in an empty jar.
  2. Place a few drops, or a small amount of suspension base nail polish on a paper plate. Don't be afraid to use a little portion of the nail polish to test. Shake in a bit of the glitter combo you've already created into the few drops of polish
  3. Use your orange stick to mix the glitter and polish together. After mixing, do a test swatch on paper or a nail. Feel free to experiment until you get your perfect look!
  4. Place a funnel into the top of the Franken Formula or polish bottle. Slowly add glitter into the bottle.
  5. Add a couple of Franken Ballz, and shake! Test your mixed glitter polish on a nail. Add more glitter as needed.

Nail Time!

Okay, now that we have our glitter polish created we can get to our nails!

  1. Start by applying a base coat to your nails to prevent and color from bleeding through and staining your nails. (Stained nails ain't pretty!)
  2. Once base coat is dry, apply 1-2 coats of the colored polish you've chosen for your look.
  3. Once your color has dried, apply a light coat of your glitter polish on the tips of your nails in a "C" shape. Make sure this coat is only lightly glittered.
  4. Now lay on another coat of the glitter polish in a "C" shape closer to the tip of the nail.
  5. Repeat this getting closer and closer to the tip of the nail until you get the gradient effect that you want.

We've got great news for you glitter fanatics! Glitties now has seven gorgeous Glitter Kits to choose from! Finally, you can get all of your favorite glitter colors/types with one click. :)

What kits do you have to choose from?

Our Bright Iridescent Glitter Kit comes with twelve of our faves! Diamond Dust, Unmellow Yellow, Tangerine, Hot Lava, Magenta, Shocking Pink, Pink Flamingo, Frosted Grape, Frostbite, Blazing Blue, Sea Breeze, and Tinker Bell Green are all included.

This 12 Pack of 10 gram jars gives you the most bang for your buck while pleasing your love of all colors bright and bold. It's hard to say no to colors like that!

There's also a Matte Hexagon kit for you opaque matte lovers! These mattes come in beautiful pastel colors for a more subdued colorful look.

These glitters are Solvent Resistant and can be placed directly into nail lacquer, gel, acrylic and other solvents without the color bleeding or glitter particles melting. We've been told that Fruit Sangria (dark red pink) may bleed a little color in solvents so be sure to test!

Iridescent and Matte glitters not your thing? How about a Holographic Glitter kit?! These glitters are solvent resistant and can be placed directly into nail lacquer, gel, acrylic and other solvents without the color bleeding or glitter particles melting!
